Recently I took a trip to West Palm Beach, Florida and had a ‘lightbulb’ moment while sitting outside for dinner at a local restaurant. I am a diehard people watcher! Like it’s a problem lol - but it’s not for judging, it’s more for trying to understand the person. Keep reading and I’ll explain!
When we were growing up, we typically wore whatever our parents put us in. A Nike tracksuit. A pink tulle dress. A stripped top with shorts. And last but not least… bows or ribbons in our hair. I promise you, there is nothing wrong with that, but for most of us our personal style didn’t figure itself out until we were older. After we got a job, or moved out, or even once we scrolled through Instagram or Pinterest and said ‘hmm I love that’! Most of us even watch the models of major designers strut down the runway just to get some inspiration.
Some of us got blessed with the style gene and knew exactly the look we wanted to go by. Some of us weren’t as lucky. Now I want to preface that there is nothing wrong with either - I knew the style I wanted to go for but if a little scroll through Pinterest can give me an idea, I’m not gonna not look ya know! Your style can stem from so many different things - where you live, how you were raised, your job even - but what matters NOW is that you are wearing something that you feel confident in! If a lace bralette and shorts is your style - you’re killing it girl, keep it up! If a simple top and jeans is your cup of tea - yes babe, we love it! If a maxi dress and cardigan look is what you love - we love a comfy, cute queen! That’s where most people get hit with the awful j-word.
The awful j-word.. aka judgement. Whoever told us that other people’s opinions matter is the worst person ever!! You wear what you want to and if someone has something to say about it then they have a serious problem that they should talk to a therapist about. We are only here for a short time, and babe we are going to wear everything we want to!! This is where the people watching part of the story comes into play - picture this - you put on your favorite outfit that perfectly matches your style, you grab the perfect shoes for the look, add a little jewelry just to spice it up & you hit the ‘Sidewalk Runway’.
The Sidewalk Runway is where we walk everyday. It could be the road that we walk down to get to work, or for a quick lunch with the girls, or down the path at the farmers market. It is your personal runway. You may be in your head thinking about a million different things or even having a main character moment, but no matter what you are the ‘designer’ and you are modeling your look! Your own personal clothing collection. So strut your stuff babe!!! I don’t know you, but you are killing it on the Sidewalk Runway girl!!
So next time you are going to any plans add a little pep to your step. You might just be inspiring someone while they watch your Sidewalk Runway!! Add a little hair flip just for us leo babe!
